Swedish hardcore punk icons REFUSED revolutionized the genre and inspired legions of hardcore, alt-rock and metal bands to push the boundaries of their artistic expression and political awareness.
Formed in the early ‘90s in Umeå, a subarctic town in northern Sweden REFUSED began when David Sandström and Dennis Lyxzén came together in 1991.REFUSED emerged with explosive energy and intent and soon became not just a band but the nucleus of a youth movement—one that was radical, political, and loud enough to attract the attention of Swedish authorities.
Their 1998 album The Shape of Punk to Come was a genre-defying masterpiece that coincided with the band’s sudden implosion during a U.S. tour. The split was sealed with the infamous "Refused Are Fucking Dead” manifesto—part truth, part provocation, part decoy.
After reuniting in 2012 after an offer to reunite for Coachella Festival spurred the band back into action, releasing further albums Freedom (2015) and War Music (2019). They will be returning to Australia to celebrate their influential run by bidding farewell with the band's final performances with special guests Melbourne's garage-punk band DELIVERY and three-piece female fronted rock group BABY MULLET.
